How many children are in the school?
Currently we have about fifty children in the Elementary school. They are in grades K-7. We try to have classes that have about 12 students per class, although some may have less. We also have a Preschool program that has about 20 different students in it. (Not everyone comes to the Preschool everyday).
Do you have plans to go through high school?
Currently we are looking to be a school through 8th grade. We are looking at a variety of programs to meet students' needs through their high school years, and will have more information as it becomes available.
How many teachers are in each class?
We have two adults in each class, one teacher and one Para-educator. Therapists also work in the classroom with their clients at times. We also have volunteers that work with children during the day.
What is the ratio of typical children to special needs children?
Our ratio of typical to children with special needs runs about 60:40. Some classes have a higher ratio of typical children; others may have a slightly lower ratio.
What special programs do you use (e.g. TEACCH, HWT, Slingerland)?
We have an eclectic approach to our program. We have used TEACCH and other programs, and we combine them through out our grades. We have used Handwriting without Tears as well as the Slingerland method to teach younger children. We have educators trained in both programs. As well, we have used Facilitated Communication to help children express themselves and we are working with the Listening Center to pilot a program using the Tomatis Method to help children learn to better concentrate
Can I come and observe the classes?
We do not have visits during the school day. Our children are sensitive to outside influences and at this time we do not have people come into classes while in session. We do hold tours once a month on the second Monday of each month @ 3:00 pm.
What are your hours?
Our school and preschool operate from the hours of 9:00 am to 2:30 pm.
How long is your school year?
Currently our school year is about 215 days long. We have 7 weeks off throughout the year. Two in December, one in the Spring, one in Summer and three in August to end the year.
How much is the current tuition?
The tuition runs $900.00 per month for Elementary school classroom tuition; therapy is billed at $25.00 per quarter hour unit.
For the Preschool classroom tuition rates are as follows: Full-time (M-F): $725.00, Part-time (M, W, F): $475.00, Part-time (T, TH): $350.00.
Do you offer financial aid?
We do offer some financial aid. One must go through an application process apart from the regular application.
Are you accredited?
We are not accredited by any agency at this time. Our Preschool program is licensed.
Are you private, public, or non-public?
We are a private school currently.
Do you work with insurance companies for therapy costs?
Costs for therapy are the responsibility of the parent or guardian of the students. We do not work directly with insurance companies.
Is therapy included in the tuition?
Therapy is billed separately from tuition. Currently our tuition is $900.00 per month and therapy is billed at $25.00 per quarter hour unit.
When is your application deadline?
There is no deadline for applications. People can apply throughout the year. We sometimes have vacancies in the middle of the school year which we move to fill quickly. Otherwise, most new students start in September.
Is there a wait list?
There is no wait list; we do not take applicants in chronological order. If there is an opening, we consider all our applicants for the opening, which means that someone who has been on file for a year and someone who has been on file for a few months would be given equal chance. We are looking to make the best fit possible for our class and so we consider everyone.
Is there a nap time in the Preschool?
Children in Preschool have the opportunity to rest; they are not made to sleep. However there is a quiet time each day for the children to rest if they want.
Does my child have to be potty-trained to be in the Preschool?
They do not.
