One of the Hope Technology School affiliate programs, E-Soccer, was honored today as its founder, Russ Ewell, was awarded the Jefferson Award. The Jefferson Award is a program of the American Institute of Public Service. It was started by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Senator Robert Taft Jr. in 1972 to recognize outstanding public service at the local and national level.
CBS channel 5 news, KCBS radio, and The San Francisco Chronicle have joined together to highlight this week's Jefferson awards "Unsung Hero", Russ Ewell. Recognized for his initiative to create and build a program where typical and special needs children of all ages come together on a soccer field to develop their skills, confidence, and self esteem, while developing life long friendships in the process. E-Soccer serves over 250 children Saturday mornings in San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, and Santa Clara counties. E-Soccer is free and has an all volunteer coaching staff. Recently, a team of nine E-Soccer coaches went to Nairobi Kenya to help train a group of volunteers to begin their own E-Soccer program.
Congratulations Russ! The Hope Technology School is proud to be affiliated with a program that is making such a huge difference in many lives.
