Our courses, especially in the middle school and high school programs, are designed to incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering and Math into the classroom. Located in Silicon Valley, the heart of the technological industry, we witness firsthand the relevance and importance of technological competence in young students. Each grade level has specified Technology Standards. In our middle school program students build and control robots based on programming skills and learn coding basics for developing their own apps. These lessons provide opportunities for students of all levels to succeed and thrive in their community.
Middle School Program
Our middle school program provides an extensive curriculum of diverse technological and programming projects. The projects incorporate the use of multiple skills for projects like creating robots, rockets, and developing apps. Our students have built devices and programmed controls for creating an arcade-like basketball shooting game or a solar oven out of cardboard and aluminum foil. The opportunities are endless when it comes to using technology in the classroom. At HTS, students first learn the skills needed to code using online programs like Code.org and MIT Scratch or LegoMindstorm. Once students learn the foundational skills for programming they begin applying them to motors and sensors that are part of Lego or Kinect machinery. Most of our students thrive with the hands on experience. Projects like these create an environment that engages different learners.
